What's New
My apologies for no newsletter in June. Between my trip to Moab and
life in general, things have been hectic, with
little time for the routines of life. Hopefully,
in about three weeks, life will return to some
semblance of normalacy. I am not counting on it,
but I can hope.
There are a few new pictures on the web site and I will hopefully add
more over the next 2-3 weeks. I still have the
Moab pictures to work through and some shots from
the Greeley, Colorado Stampede, which we attended
last week. We took some Chinese visitors to see
their first rodeo there. It is quite different
from anything they have seen in China.
The Moab, Utah trip was wonderful. The four day raft trip through Cataract
Canyon was fascinating ahd the landscape is unique.
We ran both class 4 and class 5 rapids. We then
spent a day in Arches National Park shooting both
sunrise and sunset before attending a full day
of photography presentations. Moab Paper Company
did a great job in putting together the trip. I
will have pictures up sometime over the next couple
of weeks and I will let everyone know when they
are ready to view.
Where in the World is Mitch?
Other than a couple of camping trips in August and September,
I am home for a while. Susan and I leave for the Maine coast
on September 30th and a week after I return from that trip, it
is off to China for 3-4 weeks. This trip will include the Great
Wall, the Teracota Warriors and other historical sites.
Picture of the Month
One thing the Rocky Mountains have an abundance of it fast moving
water. Take any hike in the mountains and you will come across
many small streams, often with small waterfalls. Water is fun
to photograph and there are lots of approaches to doing so. You
can freeze the water, bringing out the myriad details of the
currents and rocks, or allow things to blur, giving a sense of
motion.
This month's picture, Water Over Rock, was taken above Hamilton
Falls, on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park. It was
in late June, when the melting snow was still feeding the rivers
and streams. I liked the contrast of the lighter water against
the darker rocks.
