What's New

It has been a busy month, both for shooting and travel. This month will be more of the same. The Mountain Storm website continues to grow and attract more people. For the month of February, the site had over 45,000 hits.

As most of you know, I have added a new travelogue from a weekend trip I did to Guangzhou, China. A group of us flew there and despite heavy rains, had a great time. It is an interesting city with a lot of great food. I hope to add a couple of more travelogues this month, including one from an upcoming trip to New York City.

Where in the World is Mitch?

As I write this, I am sitting in the Pudong Airport in Shanghai waiting for my flight home (thus a rather short newsletter this month). Once I get home, I have ten days and Susan and I will be off to New York City. I hope to spend a week doing lots of urban shooting, eating some good deli and making a pilgrimage to B&H Photo Video. I have told Susan that I plan to buy a new camera while I am there. She has told me that she plans a divorce if that is true. Stay tuned for further updates in this gripping soap opera.

Picture of the Month

In September, 2004, Susan and I did a three week road trip through the Pacific Northwest. On the way home, we drove to Yellowstone National Park for a couple of days. It was cold and there were lots of scattered snow flurries.

The first day we were in the park, as we were driving the upper loop road on the west side, we stopped by a stream being fed from a nearby hot spring. This is nothing unusal, but the mix of the warm waters and the freezing air made a interesting pattern in the surrounding grasses. Where the warmth from the water was in effect, the grasses were still green and growing; almost Spring like. Where colder air held sway, the grasses had a late fall, brown look to them. the "S" pattern and the contrast of the greens and browns make an eye-catching composition. This is one of my favorite pictures.
