9/23/2003:
We arrived in Florence, Italy after a
long, but uneventful trip, including a stop in Frankfurt to change planes.
After a wild ride from the airport into the city (where do all the idiots
on scooters come from?), we checked into the Hotel Pendini and headed out
to explore. Our wanderings took us past the Uffizi Gallery, the Duomo
and then up to the Accademia. We did not stop in any of them as it was already
late in the afternoon and after the long trip, our energy was about gone.
We dined in one of the many places in the Piazza Della Repubblica (a so-so
meal) and returned to the hotel for a good night's sleep. Our resolve to remain
awake until a reasonable hour for bed failed about 7 PM.
The Piazza San Giovanni, facing the Duomo with the Bapistry
to the left. A small section of Giotto's Tower is visble on the right.
